Reeling in the years --- an auspicious beginning.

Hello, and Happy 2013!  Thank you for being here, for reading along.

New Year's Eve, 2012...

Mini-me was having some of that all-important grandma-bonding-time, so we were free to hop on our bikes and do grown-up things.  We wound our way around False Creek to enjoy some lovely Christmas Whiskey Sours with the man's nearest and dearest friends.

Velouria has a brilliant little tradition of posting a New Year's cocktail on Lovely Bicycle, which totally rocks, so I'm adopting it, too.  Here's my first pick for favourite drink of the 2012 party season:

Gina's Christmas Whisky Sour

whiskey (2oz)
juice of 1/2 lemon
egg white
1/2 oz agave, or if you must, simple syrup.  I like maple.
1/2 oz Drambuie
nutmeg.

At Pour Your Poison the bartender says to shake it dry first, and then with ice, but I just shake it dry to make it foam and then pour it over ice.  Gina's version of the recipe is waaaaaaaay tastier than that guy's recipe, though.

Mmm. That's all there is to say about that.

After cocktails we all headed over to the Vivo Centre, as guests of the man's lovely friends. There was a great crowd of artists and characters assembled to see out the old year and welcome in the new.

We saw old friends, met a few new... we laughed danced and drank and danced some more... we made merry till the wee hours of the morning.

I have a vague memory of a strange man licking my neck....
a handshake would have done just as well!

Other than that, it was lovely.  Perfect.

It was better than perfect, in fact, because I shaved years off my age. Yesterday when I woke up, I thought I was three years older than I am.  Yes, my sad excuse for a mind somehow managed to add three years to my age on my last birthday, so that for the last several months, I've believed myself to be older than I actually am. I've told all sorts of people my erroneous age in that time, too. Imagine my surprise, and delight, to discover the mistake! This morning I woke up to find myself three years younger than I was yesterday morning!

That's not something every New Year can deliver.

I hope yours was all that and more, and may you find everything you are looking for in 2013!

  1. ...may you & yours have a delightful new year & that being said, i'd like to point out that i was nowhere near 'van' & therefore not responsible for any sneaky 'touchy feelies' directed your way...

...personally, i would have introduced myself properly.........before licking your neck...ummm, being as it was new years & all...
